Chip Travis, Student Minister

 

Hello all, my name is Chip Travis. I am the Student Minister at Lafitte Baptist Church. I have been married since 1988 to the love of my life Aurelia. We have three children Kayleigh, Barrett, and Claire. I graduated from the University of Mobile in 1989.

 

Well the whole process started like this, spring of 2008 Lafitte Baptist had a fantastic Student Minister who had been in place for more than ten years. The only problem was he was called to another position. The Church asked me to fill in till a replacement could be found and I agreed. It has been three years; I guess they’re still looking (just kidding).

 

I don’t feel worthy nor did I feel qualified but a godly woman who I shared these feeling with reminded me that no one is worthy but Christ is, and God has a fat history of qualifying the unqualified.

 

All Christians are at their best when they are serving others, especially students. I try to encourage and equip students to serve.

 

Colossians 4:17 - And say to ArCHIPpus “Take heed to the ministry you have received in the Lord, that you may fulfill” it. You see this verse has my name (ha ha) and reminds me to be about what the Lord has given me. And the Lord has given me a desire help students be all they can be in the Lord.

 

My favorite shirt is plaid. My favorite movie is Napoleon Dynamite “your mom goes to college”. I laugh at silly stupid things.  My favorite sport is tennis.  On my mp3 player I have a lot of 80’s one hit wonders “Der Kommisar”.

 

I’m a really corny guy who desires meaningful and authentic experiences and relationships.

 

Oh and I love CHIPs and salsa.
